Patriots release four, including DE turned TE Jake Bequette

Preseason rosters don't need to be trimmed down to 75 until next Tuesday, but it appears Bill Belichick got a head start.

This afternoon the Pats announced that they've cut TE Jake Bequette, DL Antonio Johnson, G Mark Asper and LB Cameron Jordan.

Bequette is the most notable of the group, and was released with an injury designation. If he isn't claimed on waivers, he'll likely go to the team's injured reserve.

The 2012 third-round pick was a project for coaching staff, who had the defensive end taking reps at tight end in the preseason.

Antonio Johnson was an offseason award winner that had been seeing some first team reps on the defensive line early in camp, but once the unit started getting healthy his stock fell.
