Now, this is a tough way to go into the bye week.
The Patriots released four players today as they broke from Gillette Stadium for a four-day weekend. They cut linebacker Dekoda Watson from the active roster and wide receiver Kenbrell Thompkins, defensive tackle Joe Vellano and offensive lineman Chris Barker from the practice squad. Thompkins' second stint with the Pats lasted 23 days.
It's unclear how the Patriots plan to fill the roster spots. Former Broncos running back Montee Ball was among a group of players who worked out for the team yesterday, so it's possible he could be in the equation.
