Patriots' RB corps thinned with release of Tyler Gaffney

FOXBOROUGH, Mass. -- The New England Patriots waived running back Tyler Gaffney on Monday, thinning a position that will have to be bolstered in the draft or free agency.

The Patriots currently have just four running backs on their roster -- James White, Dion Lewis, D.J. Foster and Rex Burkhead -- as LeGarrette Blount and Brandon Bolden are unrestricted free agents. That doesn't include fullbacks James Develin and Glenn Gronkowski.

This year's draft class is considered strong at running back, so the Patriots could focus on supplementing the position that way.
