The New England Patriots officially placed four-time captain James White on injured reserve Friday, according to the NFL transaction wire.
The running back had been carted off in the second quarter of New England’s 28-13 loss to the New Orleans Saints at Gillette Stadium in Week 3. After undergoing further tests, ESPN’s Adam Schefter and Field Yates reported Wednesday that his hip subluxation was determined to be season-ending.
White, 29, handled 12 catches and 10 carries for New England over the course of September. He accounted for 132 yards from scrimmage and one touchdown while playing a trusted part both with the football and without it in blitz pickup.
