FOXBORO — Linebacker Jerod Mayo won’t be the next Patriots captain who gets shown the door, at least not in 2015.
Mayo restructured his contract yesterday to remain with the team for at least one more season, according to reports. The seven-year veteran will earn $4.5 million fully guaranteed with the chance to garner up to $6 million in 2015. The Patriots then have back-to-back option years in 2016 and 2017, but Mayo will have the opportunity to earn the same amount of money if he plays out his deal.
It’s not clear how the new deal will impact the salary cap in any of the three remaining years.
