Patriots notebook: Pats will open defense without Bryan Stork

FOXBORO — Bryan Stork’s situation took a dramatic turn for the worse yesterday.

The Patriots placed their starting center on injured reserve with the designation to return due to a concussion. Stork can’t practice until Oct. 21, and he can begin playing as early as Week 9 against the Redskins. That means Stork will miss at least seven games.

Stork expressed confidence Monday that he would play tonight against the Steelers, according to a source, but he couldn’t pass the league-mandated concussion protocol. The Patriots clearly determined it would take a while for that to happen with the short-term injured reserve designation.
