FOXBORO — There was a Shaq attack yesterday at Gillette Stadium.
Rookie guard Shaq Mason was a road grader during the Patriots’ first padded practice of training camp, and it was abundantly clear why coach Bill Belichick liked him in the fourth round of this spring’s draft.
Mason, who has been the starting left guard through three practices, routinely stood up his assignments in one-on-one and team drills. His most dominant rep occurred when he pancaked defensive end Zach Moore in a one-on-one session.
In typical Patriots rookie fashion, Mason downplayed any accomplishments.
