FOXBORO — Cornerback Malcolm Butler continued his impressive stretch of summer workouts yesterday when he made the play of the day for the Patriots defense in the team’s initial joint workout with the Jacksonville Jaguars.
Butler jumped wide receiver Allen Robinson’s route to intercept quarterback Blake Bortles’ pass in a competitive team period. Bortles had completed three consecutive passes to move the Jags down the field before Butler’s drive-halting play to win the period for the Patriots defense.
“I just made a play,” Butler said. “I was just paying attention to my guy, took a gamble and looked back for the ball, and it was there.
