The future has begun for the New England Patriots. After weeks of speculation, the team will reportedly be making a change at quarterback.
The Patriots plan to start Drake Maye this week against the Houston Texans, as first reported by Ian Rapoport of NFL Network. The first-round rookie previously served as New England’s No. 2 behind veteran Jacoby Brissett.
The third overall selection in this year’s draft, Maye was brought aboard in hopes of developing into a future franchise quarterback for the Patriots. However, he spent all of training camp behind free agency acquisition Brissett and saw only marginal playing time over the first five weeks of the season.
