Jerod Mayo has made it clear to his players this offseason that they will be a physical team that runs the football. That should be apparent in the New England Patriots season opener on Sunday.
“I think we have to go out there and really be able to control the line of scrimmage on both sides of the ball,” Mayo said Wednesday morning. “I think we need to play well on special teams as well, but it’s about the line of scrimmage. It’s about controlling the line of scrimmage and controlling the game.”
Controlling the trenches will start with the run game on offense.
