FOXBORO — The red, no-contact jersey on Jonathan Freeny at Thursday’s organized team activity served as a reminder how far the Patriots linebacker needs to go before he’s where he wants to be.
For now, just being on the field, even if it’s on the one behind Gillette Stadium and not inside it, is encouraging.
“It just feels good to be back out there, getting back into football, working with my teammates,” Freeny said. “Just trying to work every day to get better, work on my craft.”
Last year, the linebacker battled a shoulder injury in the summer and started four of the first five games before being put on injured reserve.
