FOXBORO — The Patriots managed to get smarter on defense last night.
They drafted Stanford safety Jordan Richards with the 64th overall pick in the second round. Richards was widely considered a third-day pick, but he wasn’t sweating any of that.
“Just so excited,” Richards said as he drove with his parents to visit his sister in California. “It’s an incredible opportunity, and getting to talk with the coaches and Mr. (Robert) Kraft, coach (Bill) Belichick, it’s a dream come true. I’m excited for the opportunity to get out there and get ready to go.”
The 5-foot-11, 211-pounder is considered a solid, astute player with an unquestioned work ethic and leadership qualities that will make him come across like a coach.
