FOXBOROUGH — A few years back, Stephen Gostkowski and the New England Patriots were on the fortunate end of a late-game kicking miscue, the 32-yarder from Billy Cundiff that sailed wide left, sending the Pats to Super Bowl XLVI.
"I was super pumped that we won, but it humbles you because that could have easily been me or anyone else," Gostkowski said afterward. "I'm sure no one wants to see [a kicker] go down like that. But I'm happy that we won."
A similar scenario unfolded in Minnesota this past weekend when Blair Walsh botched a 27-yard kick that would have lifted the Vikings to victory.
