Patriots hosted three offensive veterans yesterday

According to Ben Volin of the Boston Globe, the New England Patriots continued to scour the free agent market for bargains on Wednesday, hosting veterans Ricky Stanzi, Jeff Cumberland and Mike Williams.

A fifth round pick of the Kansas City Chiefs in 2011, Stanzi is the definition of a career backup having never attempted a pass in the regular season. He has also been a member of the New York Giants, Houston Texans and Jacksonville Jaguars, and he spent last year on the Detroit Lions’ practice squad.

Should the Patriots sign Stanzi, the veteran will have to prove he’s worth keeping around on the 53-man roster, as it’s unusual for the Patriots to carry three quarterbacks on game day.
