The New England Patriots are not done fine-tuning their roster and practice squad. As part of this process, they brought in a veteran tight end for a free agency visit: Tommy Sweeney, a former seventh-round draft pick by the Buffalo Bills, was in town on Thursday.
Sweeney, 29, started his career as the 228th selection in the 2019 NFL Draft. Despite his lack of pedigree, the Boston College product managed to make Buffalo’s 53-man roster and did not look back.
Over his four years with the team — including the 2020 campaign he missed due to a string of medical issues such as Covid-19 and myocarditis — the 6-foot-5, 255-pounder appeared in 24 games.
