Patriots hiring former Browns assistant as new quarterbacks coach

The New England Patriots are reportedly hiring Cleveland Browns offensive assistant Ashton Grant as their new quarterbacks coach, according to CBS Sports' Jonathan Jones.

Grant is a Connecticut native who attended Assumption University in Worcester. So this is a homecoming for the man set to replace T.C. McCartney.

Mike Vrabel hiring a quarterbacks coach is a different approach from Bill Belichick, who typically had Josh McDaniels pulling double duty as offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach.

Grant crossed paths with Vrabel during their time together in Cleveland. After being fired as the head coach for the Tennessee Titans, Vrabel served as a coaching and personnel assistant for the Browns.
