Backup quarterback Garrett Gilbert finally threw a pass in team drills during a media portion of practice today at Gillette Stadium. Apparently, it was the last time the Patriots needed to see him.
Gilbert was released today after practice, when he completed 6 of 14 passes during 11-on-11 work at the conclusion of the session. He joined the practice squad in December and remained with the 90-man roster through the first eight weeks of the offseason workout program, but today marked the first time in which he had attempted a pass in team drills in the presence of the media.
