Patriots continue trend of promoting young coaches to fill their TE void

FOXBOROUGH , Mass. -- When Bill Belichick has a void to fill on his coaching staff, the first place he usually looks is within. It has often been his preference to work with younger coaching assistants and then promote them when an opportunity arises as a position coach.

That's exactly what has unfolded on Monday, with the Patriots officially announcing Nick Caley as their tight ends coach. The position became open when Brian Daboll was named University of Alabama's offensive coordinator last week.

Caley, 34, has spent the past two seasons as a coaching assistant on Belichick's staff.
