New England Patriots defensive end Deatrich Wise Jr. is backing coach Jerod Mayo despite the Patriots' continued struggles on the season.
"What he’s doing, I think it will work out in the future," Wise told reporters, via Boston Herald's Andrew Callahan.
Mayo is only in his first year as a head coach, and there's hope he can improve in Year 2. Wise drew comparisons with Detroit Lions coach Dan Campbell, who went 3-13 in his first season with the team.
He noted that Mayo's leadership was one of the best he's been around, which is saying a lot from a team captain and Super Bowl champion.
