The New England Patriots stand with two tight ends under contract for the 2020 season.
Rob Gronkowski, whose NFL rights remained in the hands of the organization that drafted him, is not one of them.
But the 30-year-old is ending his retirement after 13 months to rejoin quarterback Tom Brady. As reported by ESPN’s Adam Schefter, the Patriots have agreed to send Gronkowski and a seventh-round pick to the Tampa Buccaneers in exchange for a fourth-round pick.
Sources told Karen Guregian of the Boston Herald and Ian Rapoport of NFL Media on Tuesday afternoon that Gronkowski had requested a trade to Tampa Bay.
