NFL considering ban of field goal leapers like Shea McClellin

Remember Jamie Collins leaping over the line to block a Colts extra point a few years ago? How about Shea McClellin blocking a field goal against the Ravens this past season, and how pivotal that play was in the Patriots victory?

Well, such plays may no longer exist. There’s a proposal the league is going to consider during the NFL’s annual spring meetings next week in Phoenix that would ban having players leap over the line of scrimmage on field goals and extra point attempts.

The way it stands, defenders are currently permitted to jump over their opponents on such plays so long as they do not land on another player or use their hands or arms to gain leverage.
