After striking out early in free agency on Tampa Bay Buccaneers wide receiver Chris Godwin, the New England Patriots finally landed a big-name target for second-year quarterback Drake Maye in the form of Stefon Diggs.
The club inked the four-time Pro Bowler to a 3-year, $69 million contract, although only $26 million of the deal is guaranteed. In a receiving room that was previously led by youngsters Demario Douglas and Kayshon Boutte, Diggs will give the position group immediate credibility and be a valuable veteran presence for the developing Maye.
At the same time, it is important to set reasonable expectations for Diggs as he enters his 11th NFL season.
