The opt-outs keep on coming for the Patriots. On Saturday, veteran receiver Marqise Lee became the seventh player in Foxboro to exercise his right to sit out the 2020 NFL season.
The news was first reported by the Boston Globe.
Lee, who signed a one-year deal with the Patriots this offseason, represented a low-risk, high-reward signing. The veteran has been hampered with injuries over the last two seasons after having career years for Jacksonville in 2016 and 2017. Lee told ESPN that his family welcomed a baby girl, his first child, this offseason in February so he decided to opt-out for the safety of his family.
