The New England Patriots don't often issue formal announcements regarding potential changes to their coaching staff, but Bill Belichick's team isn't exactly in a familiar position after missing the playoffs for the second time in three years.
The Patriots announced Belichick and the team were in contract negotiations with inside linebackers coach Jerod Mayo to keep him in Foxborough on a long-term extension, according to a Thursday press release. Mayo has been linked to a number of coaching vacancies across the NFL.
The team also announced it would begin interviewing for offensive coordinator candidates beginning next week.
