The running back situation in New England remains unsettled, and surely there are more additions to come.
Entering free agency, the Patriots had five running backs under contract — Dion Lewis (recovering from ACL surgery), James White, Brandon Bolden, Joey Iosefa and Tyler Gaffney. On Wednesday, they added another, inking Donald Brown, a source confirmed.
The news was first reported by Fox Sports' Peter Schrager.
A first-round pick out of UConn in 2009, Brown played five seasons with the Colts before signing with San Diego in 2013. After averaging 5.3 yards per carry with Indianapolis in 2013, Brown never was able to seize control of the Chargers' starting job.
