FOXBOROUGH — Needing a boost in the backfield following Dion Lewis' season-ending ACL tear, the Patriots made two moves this week, claiming rookie running back Trey Williams off waivers from Dallas and signing veteran slot receiver Damaris Johnson.
Johnson, who excels on bubble screens and end arounds, was a teammate of Lewis' in Philadelphia back in 2012. Since being cut by the Texans in September, he worked out for the Seahawks, Titans and Jets. He signed with the Pats following his Monday workout.
Williams, undrafted out of Texas A&M, spent time with the Redskins and Cowboys.
