In need of depth on the offensive line, the New England Patriots promoted tackle Chris Barker from the practice squad to the active roster Saturday, a source confirmed.
ESPN's Mike Reiss first reported the news.
Barker has the versatility to play both guard and tackle. He has been with the Patriots since 2013.
With Sebastian Vollmer (concussion) and Marcus Cannon (toe) ruled out Sunday versus the Giants, the Pats will be relying on Cameron Fleming and, most likely, center Bryan Stork at the tackle positions. Barker will likely be the backup at both tackle spots.
