Training camp doesn’t officially begin until Tuesday, but the first round of Patriots cuts has rolled through.
To comply with the NFL’s new 80-player mandate, Bill Belichick released undrafted quarterbacks J’Mar Smith, Brian Lewerke and seven others, per the Boston Globe’s Jim McBride. A highly athletic dual-threat, Smith could have been a fascinating practice squad fit.
McBride reports wide receivers Isaiah Zuber, Sean Riley, Will Hastings were also cut on the offensive side of the ball, as well as safeties Malik Gant and Adarius Pickett and linebackers Kyahva Tezino and Courtney Wallace on defense.
