The New England Patriots hired Mike Vrabel on Sunday as their 16th head coach in franchise history.
Vrabel played for New England from 2001 to 2008, with the former Patriots linebacker being an integral member of three Super Bowl winning teams. He was inducted into the Patriots Hall of Fame in 2023. Vrabel becomes yet another well-known ex-star who will now be asked to coach at the place where he earned fame as a player.
It's not an uncommon phenomenon in all of sports -- though results have varied widely among the figures who've attempted it.
