For the second time in the past three NFL drafts, there is an elite first-round tight end trying to find a great early fit. Although Notre Dame's Michael Mayer won't go as high in 2023 as Kyle Pitts went to the Falcons in 2021 (No. 4 overall), he is worthy of a top-15 pick.
Mayer and Utah's Dalton Kincaid may make it multiple tight ends taken in the first round for the first time since 2019, when T.J. Hockenson (No. 8), Noah Fant (No. 20) and Hayden Hurst (No. 25) all went on Day 1. Since 2000, 25 tight ends have entered the league as first-round picks.
