Matt Patricia seemingly throws another ex-Patriots coach under the bus for offensive struggles

Matt Patricia might have won three Super Bowls during his tenure with the Patriots — including a pair in 2014 and 2016 as the team’s defensive coordinator.

But the longtime Bill Belichick staffer’s tenure on the offensive side of the ball left a lot to be desired.

After offensive coordinator Josh McDaniels left the Patriots at the end of the 2021 season to take over as Raiders head coach, Belichick rolled the dice as he reworked his coaching personnel — tabbing a longtime defensive coach in Patricia as the team’s primary play-caller on offense.

It was a risky exercise that ended in disaster, with New England’s offense cratering in 2022 and Mac Jones regressing from a Pro-Bowl talent as a rookie into a rudderless QB under Patricia’s tutelage.
