Patriots starting right tackle Marcus Cannon will opt out of the 2020 season due to health and safety concerns related to the coronavirus pandemic, Karen Guregian of the Boston Herald reported late Monday night.
“According to a source, Cannon has seriously considered opting out in recent days, often discussing the possibility with his family,” Guregian reported. “Along with the Patriots’ other veterans, Cannon was expected to report to Gillette Stadium on Tuesday for COVID-19 testing. However, as of Monday night, Cannon now plans on missing the season all together.”
Cannon, 32, beat non-Hodgkin lymphoma during his rookie year in 2011 and is likely considered high-risk for complications from COVID-19.
