Malcolm Butler is proving an island unto himself

You can almost picture the smirk on Bill Belichick’s face behind closed doors, given what’s transpired with cornerbacks Malcolm Butler and Darrelle Revis this season.

The way it’s playing out, Belichick looks pretty shrewd for not spending big money to retain Revis, who became a free agent when the Pats didn’t exercise his hefty 2015 option.

The shutdown corner may have cashed in with the Jets, scoring a $70 million deal, but he’s not the same dominant player as last season, while Butler, an undrafted rookie out of a Division 2 college last season, has blossomed into a legitimate No.
