FOXBOROUGH — Mac Jones looked more free and more easy at Wednesday’s practice but it’s still unsettled as to whether Jones or Bailey Zappe will get the start at quarterback when the Patriots face the Browns in Cleveland Sunday.
Jones, who is recovering from a high ankle sprain suffered in Week 3, has missed the last two games. Brian Hoyer started in Week 4 before an early concussion forced him to the sideline. Bailey Zappe took over in Green Bay and then led the Patriots to a home win over the Lions Sunday.
“I’m preparing to do what my coaches tell me I’m supposed to be doing and right now that’s to take practice reps and do everything I can to help the team,’’ Zappe said after practice, when asked if he’s preparing as the starter.
