FOXBOROUGH, Mass. -- New England Patriots linebacker Jonathan Freeny, who is third on the depth chart behind Dont'a Hightower and Jamie Collins, has signed a two-year extension with the club.
Freeny, who is entering his fifth NFL season, was scheduled for unrestricted free agency after the 2016 season. He was scheduled to earn $1 million in base salary this season as part of an extension he signed last year after initially inking a one-year contract with the team as a free agent.
He played in 36.5 percent of the defensive snaps last season in New England, totaling 43 tackles in 13 games (seven starts).
