Joshua Uche had the opportunity to earn a decent paycheck in his first free agency experience. Instead, he took the opportunity to remain with the New England Patriots on a discount.
The Patriots edge rusher reportedly turned down a two-year deal that had $11 million guaranteed to stay in New England, opting to sign a one-year, $3 million contract instead, via Tom Pelissero of the NFL Network. Uche heard people call him “crazy” for turning down, but he felt that he had to remain in New England, via NBC Sports Boston.
“There were some options on the table, but in my heart, I felt that I was destined to be a Patriot,” Uche told reporters on Tuesday, explaining his decision for the first time since he re-signed with the team in March.
