Jerod Mayo undergoes surgery for torn pectoral muscle

Patriots linebacker Jerod Mayo underwent surgery for a torn pectoral muscle Tuesday, but the veteran is expected to be OK for training camp in late July.

Mayo was hurt in the Jan. 16 playoff win over the Chiefs and was placed on season-ending injured reserve last week.

Mayo appeared in all 16 regular-season games with the Patriots this season, his eighth in New England. While he wasn’t quite the player he was in past seasons (after injuries cut 2013 and 2014 campaigns to just six games), the seven-time captain still was a contributor both on the field and in the locker room.
