The first Maye Day in New England was solid but unspectacular in the Patriots preseason opener. It also lasted just seven plays.
After starter Jacoby Brissett was pulled after just one series, the keys were handed over to rookie Drake Maye. The rookie completed two-of-three passes for 19 yards — one completion being a screen and one a check down — before the offense punted.
He retreated to the sideline and traded his helmet for an ear piece and was never seen on the field again.
“That was always the plan,” head coach Jerod Mayo said after the game.
