Jason McCourty’s contract just got a tad more complicated.
The New England cornerback was set to earn a base salary of $2.375 million entering the 2018 season, McCourty’s first with the Patriots. That number has been trimmed to $1.6 million, making room for more than $1 million in incentives, ESPN reported Tuesday.
McCourty has a chance to collect $1 million in playing-time bonuses, earning $200,000 if he plays 40 percent of defensive snaps, another $200,000 for 50 percent, and so on up to 80 percent. Additionally, McCourty can nab an extra $400,000 if he hits certain per-game benchmarks over the course of the season.
