FOXBORO — Conventional wisdom figured that James Harrison’s primary role with the Patriots — at least to start —would be as a situational pass rusher.
That was part of his arsenal during yesterday’s 26-6 win over the New York Jets at a frigid Gillette Stadium. But the outside linebacker showed he’s capable of much more than expected for someone who just joined the team last Tuesday.
Released by the Pittsburgh Steelers Dec. 23, the 39-year-old made five tackles, including one for loss, two sacks — increasing his career total to 84.5 — and forced a fumble. The sacks and forced fumble came on the last two snaps of the game.
