On the morning of Thursday, April 25, Jacoby Brissett was the clear frontrunner to serve as the New England Patriots’ starting quarterback this season. Not only was he signed to a one-year, $8 million contract in free agency that also included $6.5 million in guarantees, he also has experience working with new offensive coordinator Alex Van Pelt.
However, Brissett’s outlook might have changed drastically later that day. With the third overall pick in the draft, after all, the team selected one of the blue-chip talents available: North Carolina quarterback Drake Maye is now a Patriot.
While there are questions about Maye’s readiness, especially in an offense that is a work in progress, his talent is undeniable.
