The New England Patriots lost tight end Michael Williams with a torn ACL and will have to rely on the depth at the position to step up. It seems far more likely now than free agent signing Clay Harbor will step up as the 3rd tight end on the depth chart.
Williams served multiple functions for the Patriots and was more than just an extra offensive lineman. He also was a lead blocker in the “wedge” on kick returns, and we know how much head coach Bill Belichick appreciates special teams value.
Belichick says that Harbor will step up in that role- if he can.
