The roof of Mercedes-Benz Stadium in Atlanta will be closed, then opened, then closed again Sunday during the Super Bowl.
According to Brian McCarthy, a public relations representative for the NFL, the plan is for the retractable roof to be closed during on-field warmups, open for the pregame ceremonies, which includes a flyover from the Air Force’s Thunderbirds, then closed for the remainder of the night.
The weather is forecast to be 59 degrees and mostly sunny at kickoff around 6:30 p.m. This is the third year in a row the Super Bowl has been played in a dome or a stadium with a retractable roof.
