Drake Maye is getting plenty of work in during practice: When Jerod Mayo announced that Jacoby Brissett would be the Patriots’ starting quarterback over Drake Maye, the head coach said that the rookie would get plenty of work in practice.
That appears to be the case through the first week of the regular season. Maye took 30 percent of the first-team reps during practice ahead of the Patriots’ Week 1 win over the Bengals, CBS Sports’ Evan Washburn recently reported.
“For those that don’t know, a backup in a normal NFL situation, if they get five-to-10 percent of the first team reps, that would be a lot,” Washburn, who was sideline reporter for the Patriots-Bengals game, said on CBS Sports Network.
