With word of Dante Scarnecchia being on the verge of coming back to coach the Patriots offensive line, the outlook for the beleaguered unit has brightened considerably.
Scarnecchia, who was with the Patriots for 30 seasons (1982-88, 1991-2013) before retiring two years ago, is one of the best coaches Bill Belichick could plug into that spot.
Guys who have played for him and love him still stand by him, of course. But that also goes for the guys who curse at the mention of his name because he was so tough on them.
“If he’s coming back, that’s great for the Patriots,” said Matt Light, who made no secret of his battles with Scarnecchia when he played protected Tom Brady’s blindside for a decade.
