New York Jets defensive end Muhammad Wilkerson reported for the team’s mandatory minicamp yesterday despite saying he’s frustrated by his contract situation.
Wilkerson stayed away from the team’s facility during voluntary workouts while looking for a new deal. Wilkerson is in the last year of his rookie contract and is seeking a long-term extension, something he thought he would have already.
Wilkerson says the toe injury that ended his season last year is still not fully healed and might prevent him from fully participating in practices.
The player’s agent, Chad Wiestling, said in a statement that the defensive end is “willing to put the team ahead of his own contractual status” and would prefer to finish his career with the Jets.
