Exploring Patriots' decision-making at end of second quarter

FOXBOROUGH, Mass. -- For the second straight week, the New England Patriots have given us reason to look closer at their handling of "situational football" at the end of the second quarter.

Often an area of mastery for them, they've lost a bit of their edge in this area in losses to the Broncos and Eagles the past two weeks.

In reviewing their approach Sunday against Philadelphia, it basically comes down to this: Facing 3rd-and-5 from their own 38-yard line, and needing about 27 yards to set up a long field goal attempt, was it worth taking a shot?
