Former Patriots head coach Dick MacPherson died at 86 Tuesday.
MacPherson, a native of Old Town, Maine, was the Patriots coach in 1991-1992 and the team went 8-24 in that span before his exit paved the way for the arrival of the Bill Parcells era.
MacPherson made his biggest career impact as the head coach at Syracuse from 1981-90, when he went 66-46-4. He was also the head coach at UMass from 1971-77, when he went 46-27-1. MacPherson was inducted into the College Football Hall of Fame in 2009.
His time with the Patriots was among the lowest points in franchise history.
