FOXBORO — Running backs coach Ivan Fears pre-dates coach Bill Belichick with the Patriots. After watching all 17 of Belichick’s drafts, there isn’t much left that can surprise Fears.
As such, Fears wasn’t taken aback when Belichick didn’t bolster his positional group by selecting a running back last weekend despite many projecting it as an area of need.
“You never know how the draft is going to go, you really don’t,” Fears said. “There’s a lot of guys that we looked at. A lot of guys that we had some interest in, but they had to be there at the right time.
