Though the New England Patriots haven’t lost any of their assistants this offseason, Bill Belichick reportedly is making room for Central New York native Matt Patricia.
The Boston Globe’s Jim McBride reports Patricia will return to New England and “assist the Patriots coaching staff in a variety of roles.” He’s bringing Lions assistant Evan Rothstein, too. Last season Steve Belichick was calling the plays for New England’s defense, so it remains to be seen whether his role will change. The team hasn’t named a defensive coordinator since Patricia left in 2017.
Patricia was fired by Detroit in November after amassing a 13-29-1 record as Lions head coach.
